Although he took to the stage as a shy student to overcome his insecurity, he grew to become a monument of cinematic art with a body of work comprising almost 150 titles. Throughout his career, Trintignant remained true to his characteristic, understated style. In honour of his impressive career, De Uitkijk is screening four of his most moving masterpieces.
Anne and Georges are elderly. They have a grown-up daughter and lead a quiet life in Paris, in which their passion for music still plays a major role. Then Anne has a heart attack and a new phase in their life together begins. Georges cares for her with all his strength and love. But he cannot prevent her from slipping further away from him and finds himself increasingly isolated.
A moving film about the love of a couple fighting against the merciless blows dealt by old age.
The film by Michael Haneke (La Pianiste, Caché), starring Jean-Louis Trintignant, Emmanuelle Riva and Isabelle Huppert, won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival
2012 and also the European Film Awards for Best Film and Best Director. The lead actors won the awards for Best Actor and Best Actress. The film also won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film.
