The new film by Damien Chazelle (Whiplash, La La Land) about the young and decadent Hollywood of the 1920s.
They were wild, hedonistic times; in the late 1920s, Los Angeles was still a desert city-in-the-making and the first pioneers in the film business grew into the moguls of Hollywood. Around 1928, the film industry was shaken up: the sound film made its entrance, and few stars from the silent film era managed to make the transition. Against the backdrop of the Jazz Age, director Damien Chazelle paints the rise and fall of some players in the industry, with the ambitious young starlet Nellie LaRoy (Margot Robbie) and aging film star Jack Conrad (Brad Pitt) at the center.
Babylon is an ode to the wild years of Hollywood in the form of an equally wild, grand ensemble film - which also shows the downside of the dream factory: the shattered careers, drug addictions, and the pursuit of fame that only a few experience.
