After the death of the pope, cardinals from around the world cast their votes in the most secretive election in the world: the conclave. Cardinal Lawrence (Ralph Fiennes) must ensure that everything runs smoothly, despite his own crisis of faith. As towering ambitions unravel into scandals, he discovers that the deceased pope was far from holy.
