Hoop Dreams (1994)
HOOP DREAMS follows two African-American boys who are determined to become professional basketball players. William and Arthur come from rough, disadvantaged neighbourhoods in Chicago and grow up in structural poverty. Despite the enormous challenges of their daily lives, they cling to their dream of playing in the NBA, supported by their families and neighbourhoods. HOOP DREAMS is a complex and moving documentary that uses basketball to explore issues surrounding race, class, and the sports industry. HOOP DREAMS was filmed over five years and is considered one of the best non-fiction films from the United States to date.
