The White Ribbon (2009)

Just before the outbreak of the First World War (1913–1914), a quiet Protestant farming village in northern Germany is shaken by a series of inexplicable events.

A cable is stretched out to cause the doctor and his horse to fall, a barn bursts into flames, and two children are abducted and tortured. The schoolteacher observes and investigates the events, which increasingly resemble ritual punishments, and draws ever closer to the terrible truth.
