Trainspotting (30th Anniversary)
In the humorous and vulgar TRAINSPOTTING, the viewer follows Mark Renton and his group of heroin-addicted friends in Edinburgh. The film portrays the Scottish ‘scum’ in their quest to extricate themselves from unemployment, drug problems and failed relationships. When Renton fails yet again in his attempt to kick his heroin habit, the group of friends decide to try a different approach.
TRAINSPOTTING explores Scottish identity, free from the dominant American lens through which Scotland had previously been portrayed in films. It offers a sharp insight into the dichotomy between the country’s rawness and poetry, resulting in a film full of harsh truths and stunning beauty.
