The Zone of Interest is a remarkable and unprecedented war drama. Director Jonathan Glazer (Under the Skin) masterfully portrays the banality of evil. “A ruthless masterpiece” (★★★★★ – BBC).
Camp commandant Rudolf Höss (Christian Friedel) lives with his family in a beautiful, spacious official residence with a large garden, situated right next to the walls of Auschwitz. His wife, Hedwig (Sandra Hüller, Anatomy of a Fall), feels like royalty. In this setting, she creates a paradise for her family, one she refuses to let go of.
The Zone of Interest has been nominated for five Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best International Film, and Best Sound Design. The film was also awarded the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival. Glazer loosely based the story on Martin Amis's novel of the same name.
