The melancholic film EL SUR tells the story of Estrella, who looks back on her childhood in northern Spain. Enchanted by her mythical father, she sets out in search of the south that lives on in him after he was forced to leave southern Spain by Franco’s regime. EL SUR is a film about the gap between memory and reality, and the discovery of the bitter truth that even our parents are flesh-and-blood human beings.
