A small group of cosmic explorers leaves Earth to found a new civilisation. They do not realise that in doing so, they are bringing about the end of their own dream. They die one by one, whilst their children turn to new myths and a religion of their own.

Director Andrzej Żuławski had almost completed ON THE SILVER GLOBE (1988), a scathing critique of authoritarian-religious regimes, when the Polish government ordered production to be halted and all negatives to be destroyed. This attempt at censorship failed, and ten years later the film premiered to resounding success at Cannes.
