The Tunisian film Wanderers of the Desert takes us to a remote, isolated desert village where children have never been to school. Among them, a mysterious urge compels them to wander the desert in search of a lost treasure. The arrival of a teacher in the village marks the beginning of a clash between spirituality and modernity.
This spiritual tale forms the first part of Tunisian filmmaker Nacer Khemir’s Desert Trilogy. Through carefully stylized visuals and language, Khemir captures the beauty of the desert. A poetic and mysterious portrait of people living a spiritual existence, far removed from the modernizing world.
